Aaron Pratt is a one-time character in the American crime series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Character creation
Story editor Elizabeth Devine has an autistic son, Austin, which inspired the storyline. She wanted to clear up misconceptions surrounding autism and avoid a Rain Man-like portrayal. Actor Michael Goorjian also met with Austin in preparation of the role. Austin is listed as a technical consultant in the credits.[1]
Biography
Aaron is a librarian at the Western State Historical Society. He is the sole witness to the death of his colleague Veronica. He is upset over the flash photography the crime scene investigators use to document the crime scene, since the flash damages the antique books in the library. When he is interrogated, it is discovered he has a photographic recall of the events leading up to Veronica's death.
Autism
An investigator thinks Aaron's odd body language indicates he's guilty, to which investigator Gil Grissom replies that Aaron is "a high-functioning autistic man with superior right-brain abilities". He has a pedantic speech pattern. He often makes literary references to explain what he means, including the precise page and line the reference comes from.
Similarities between Aaron and main character Gil are noted.
