Caitlin Smith is the main character of the novel Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine.
Character creation
Author Kathryn Erskine researched Asperger's in order to write the character, including speaking with parents and teachers of children with Asperger's.[1] She also has a daughter with autism.[2][3] Her daughter has read the book and said it was a fairly accurate representation.[4]
Synopsis
10-year-old Caitlin has to cope with her brother being killed in a school shooting.
Autism
Caitlin is stated to have Asperger's in the novel.
