Charlie Hudson is the main character in the thriller audiobook American Girl by Wendy Walker.
Character creation
Charlie was initially not written as autistic, but was rather given a specific set of traits that author Wendy Walker later realized were autistic. Walker did online research, and spoke with autism experts and friends who have autistic children. An autistic sensitivity reader was also employed.[1]
Paige Layle, who voices the audiobook as it is told from Charlie's perspective, is autistic.[2][3]
Autism
Charlie is stated to be autistic on the audiobook's description page.[4]
