Clover Donovan is the main character in the Viral Nation series of post-apocalyptic young adult novels by Shaunta Grimes.
Character creation
Author Shaunta Grimes has a son with Asperger syndrome. Clover's relationship with her brother is inspired by the real-life relationship between Grimes' son and his sister. A review of the first book in the series by Disability in Kidlit inspired her to approach certain aspects differently, such as the magical autism trope and the way Clover deals with physical touch.[1]

Clover is first stated to have autism in the first book of the series, Viral Nation.
