Ian is the title character in the picture book Ian's Walk by Laurie Lears.
Character creation
Author Laurie Lears has written multiple picture books about disabilities such as cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Ian's Walk is the first in this series of books.
Synopsis
Ian goes for a walk to the park with his sisters Tara and Julie. They become frustrated at his sensory-seeking behaviors (such as lying down on the ground and pressing his face against the stones). Suddenly he wanders off, and Julie tries to think like Ian to figure out where he went. After they find him, they walk back home with a new-found appreciation for his sensory behaviors (such as joining in on watching a spinning ceiling fan).

Ian is stated to have autism in the book.
