Jhilmil Chatterjee is a main character in the Indian drama-comedy movie Barfi!.

Character creation[edit]

Actress Priyanka Chopra did research on autism in preparation for the role. She visited mental institutions and spoke with autistic people.[1] For a small part, she took cues from Shah Rhuk Khan, who plays the titular character in My Name is Khan.[2]

Biography[edit]

Jhilmil Chatterjee was born into a rich family. Due to her being autistic, she was considered to be an embarrassment to the family, and it is rumored that her mother tried to kill her in a drunken rage. Jhilmil is sent away from home, but is brought back when her grandfather is on his deathbed and wants to see her.

Jhilmil is a young woman with curly black hair.

She is stated to be autistic in the film by the narrator.
